Ruma National Park

Ruma National Park, located in western Kenya near Lake Victoria, is a hidden gem offering a unique safari experience.

Key Features:

  • Diverse Landscapes: Ruma boasts a variety of habitats, from riverine woodlands and rolling savannah to dramatic escarpments and cliffs. This diverse terrain supports a wide range of wildlife.  
  • Endangered Roan Antelope: The park is Kenya’s last remaining sanctuary for the endangered roan antelope, making it a crucial conservation area for this species.  
  • Exceptional Birdlife: Ruma is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 400 recorded species. It’s the only place in Kenya where you can regularly spot the globally threatened blue swallow.  
  • Abundant Wildlife: In addition to roan antelopes, Ruma is home to Rothschild’s giraffes, serval cats, hyenas, impalas, vervet monkeys, oribis, bohor reedbucks, leopards, buffaloes, and Jackson’s hartebeests. Recently reintroduced species like black and white rhinos and Burchell’s zebras are also thriving. 
  • Rich in Reptiles: Ruma has a significant snake population, including species like the African spitting cobra, forest cobra, python, eastern green mamba, black-mouthed mamba, and puff adder. You’ll also find various lizards, skinks, and geckos.
